The problem you described may be caused by using the wrong kind of sparkplug, for example using a B10 instead of a BR10. Without the integrated resistor, there is a lot of high voltage parasites that can cause digital circuits to misbehave. Try with a new BR sparkplug, it may be as simple as that :)...
