LED turn signals help

Ongelezen bericht door ProotusGM »

Hello. I am aware that this is a dutch forum but I think english is better than google translated dutch.
Looking to install led rear light with integrated turn indicators and I need advice on how to make them work correctly.
My 2006 Gilera SMT 50 has a voltage regulator with a built-in flasher unit (Guilera 14412025).
I am assuming that I need load transistors for the indicators, would a 10w 10ohm resistor be enough for one indicator? The stock bulbs are 21W.

If im not wrong it’s plug and play because the amount of voltage directed to the blinkers is never more then 12V because it connected with the battery!

Nope..

The LEDs do not use enough current to work reliably.
However, if you disconnect the bulb for the indicator in the dash it will work.
The reason for this is that the bulb in the dash is connected between the left and right turn signal.
If the current is too low, both the left and right indicators will flash at the same time(because the bulb connects them together)

You don't need resistors,as the build in electronic flasher does work with the LED indicators.

So if I install led turn signals and just disconnect the turn signal indicator bulb, the led turn signals will blink at normal speeds? Interesting.

Yes, disconnect the bulb and your blinkers will work fine.
A ledbulb there won't work.

You'll need 2 diodes and a separate ground connection for it.

Like this :

Cut both orange and pink wire from bulb socket (leave a bit of length...)

Orange wire --- diode --- to orange connection of bulb
Pink wire --- diode --- to orange connection of bulb
Yellow/green --- to pink connection of bulb.

This way only the signal of either the left or the right blinker will be used to illuminate the bulb.

Just another shortcut Derbi made in the wiring of these bikes.
They should have used 2 bulbs, one for each direction.
